Simply launch My Taximeter when you start the car. The display will say $ 0.00 (or Euro, British Pound, Swedish krona, Brazilian real and Renminbi depending on your settings) and when you drive away you can easily see what your driving costs.
You can easily restore my Taximeter with the "Reset" button in the left corner and My Taximeter will start from $ 0.00 again.
